Privacy Policy

Last Updated: April 2025

Hi there! We want you to understand how Midpointr handles your information when you use our service. Your privacy is important to us.

1. Who We Are

We are Midpointr. If you have privacy questions, you can reach us using our contact form at: https://midpointr.com/contact

2. What Information We Handle

  • Location Info You Give Us: The addresses, postcodes, or place names you enter as starting points for finding a midpoint.
  • Info We Figure Out:
    • The map coordinates (latitude/longitude) for the locations you enter.
    • Travel time and distance estimates between your locations and potential meeting spots, based on the travel mode (driving/transit) you choose.
    • The calculated coordinates for the best meeting spot(s).
    • Suggestions for nearby places (like cafes or restaurants) around the meeting spot.
  • Collaboration Info (If you use it): If you join or create a shared session, we handle the locations shared in that session and any names participants choose to add. We also keep track of the session itself (like its unique ID).
  • How You Use the App (Anonymously): We look at general usage patterns (like which features are popular) using analytics tools to see how we can improve the app. This data isn't linked to you personally.
  • Service Monitoring Info (Internal): We count how many times we use external services (like for finding places) to make sure things are running smoothly. This is just technical data, not about you specifically.

3. Why We Use Your Information

  • Run the App: Calculate the best meeting points and show nearby places, just like you asked.
  • Enable Sharing: Let you collaborate with others by sharing locations and results within a session.
  • Improve the App: Understand how people use the app (anonymously) so we can make it better.
  • Keep Things Working: Monitor our technical usage to ensure the app stays reliable.

4. How We Process Your Data (The Legal Bit)

  • To Provide the Service: We need your locations and preferences to actually calculate the midpoint – that's the core function you're using.
  • For Legitimate Reasons: Using anonymous usage data helps us improve the app for everyone, which we believe is a fair reason, as long as it doesn't compromise your privacy.
  • With Your Consent: If we ever needed to use your data for something else (which we don't plan to!), we would ask for your clear permission first.

5. Sharing Information with Others

We don't sell your personal information.

To make the app work, we rely on some specialized third-party services such as mapping, point of interest, and hosting/infrastructure services to host and run the application. These trusted partners have their own privacy policies and are responsible for how they handle data. We only share what's necessary for them to perform their function (e.g., sending coordinates to get travel times).

Additionally, as detailed in our Cookies and Advertising section (Section 11), we work with advertising partners like Google AdSense who use cookies and similar technologies to display ads based on your interaction with our site and others.

6. How Long We Keep Information

  • Single Use: When you just find a midpoint for yourself, we process the locations you enter, but we don't store them after you get your result.
  • Collaboration Sessions: If you use a shared session, the locations, names (if given), and results are stored for one month so the group can access them. After that, the session data is automatically deleted.

7. Keeping Your Information Safe

We use standard technical security measures (like secure connections and relying on our hosting provider's security) to protect the information we handle.

8. Your Privacy Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the UK or European Economic Area, you have certain rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you (mostly relevant for collaboration sessions).
  • Correction: You can ask us to fix anything that's wrong.
  • Deletion: You can ask us to delete your information (again, mainly for stored collaboration data).
  • Limit Use: You can ask us to limit how we use your data in certain situations.
  • Data Copy: You can ask for a copy of your data in a standard format.
  • Object: You can object to us using your data for our legitimate interests.

To exercise these rights, please contact us using our contact form at: https://midpointr.com/contact. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority if you're unhappy with how we handle your data.

9. Where Your Information Goes

Sometimes, the services we use (including hosting and third-party function providers) might process data on servers located outside the UK or European Economic Area (EEA). When this happens, we rely on the standard legal safeguards implemented by those services (like Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions) to ensure your data receives adequate protection.

10. Cookies

We use cookies (small text files stored on your device) to help us ensure the website performs well and to provide advertising. Our hosting provider might use essential technical cookies strictly necessary to make the site work. You can usually control cookies through your browser settings.

11. Google AdSense and Advertising Cookies

We use Google AdSense to display ads on Midpointr. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to Midpointr and/or other sites on the Internet.

12. Changes to This Policy

We might update this policy occasionally to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. If we make significant changes, we'll post the new version here and update the "Last Updated" date at the top. We encourage you to check back periodically to stay informed.

13. Questions?
